The Cymbidium, or Boat Orchids, are native to Asia and Australia. In their native habitat, Cymbidium grow in trees and their roots do not require soil.

The Cymbidium is referred to as the Boat Orchid due to the large "boat-like" cavity in the base of the lip.

The rounded sepals and petals are about the same size, giving the impression this orchid has 5 petals besides the lip. The half dozen scarlet flowers form on a single stem growing from the base of the short psuedobulb, while 6 long narrow leaves grow from it's sheath.
